To Presidents and National Representatives
IFCC Member Societies

Dear Colleagues,
RE: Request to vote for Michael Mayer for Member, IFCC Executive Board

I humbly request your Society's support and vote in support of my candidacy as Member of the new Executive Board of IFCC (2012-2014) in the election that will take place at the IFCC General Council meeting in Berlin, May 2011.

As summarized in the attached Curriculum Vitae, I have successfully pursued a career in laboratory medicine, practicing senior professional, academic (research and teaching), and administrative responsibilities. I have contributed to IFCC activities in several committees and in the Executive Board of the Education and Management Division, and served two successions as President of the Israel Society for Laboratory Sciences. I have proved, time and time again, that I am a hard working and competent representative in service of our professional community.

Based on my proven dedication, strong commitment, and years of experience, I respectfully ask for your vote in the upcoming election. If elected to the Executive Board, I shall be keen to actively contribute to the activities of IFCC with the same enthusiasm and sense of mission that I have demonstrated in previous tasks that I took upon myself.

As your representative, I will leverage my practical experience, solid values and common sense to advance the short and long term goals of the IFCC and help the Executive Board realize the full potential of our organization. I will specifically focus my efforts to meet the needs of our member societies in the areas of educational offerings, professional support, and appropriate recognition and status among Government Ministries and Agencies, regulatory bodies, the media, and the general public.
Sincerely yours,

Michael Mayer, D.Sc.

European Conference of National Strategies for Chlamydia Trachomatis and Human Papillomavirus

European Conference of National Strategies for Chlamydia Trachomatis and Human Papillomavirus is organized under auspices of IFCC and will take place on May 26-27, 2011 in Jurmala, Latvia. The Conference arises from the Project European Conference of National Strategies for Chlamydia Trachomatis and Human Papillomavirus-NSCP which has received funding from the European Union, in the framework of the Public Health Programme. Detailed information is available at the Conference webpage www.cthpv.org
Purpose. The Conference will provide guidance in the European Union about national strategies for Chlamydia trachomatis and HPV early detection and control.
Objective - evaluation and developing of Chlamydia trachomatis and HPV current control programmes. Control programmes aim to reduce the prevalence diseases, but this is difficult to monitor as it requires periodic population surveys of the population. However, there are many other indicators of the effectiveness which should be built into any programme from the outset. At the national level, programmes should monitor indicators relating to the policies and guidelines of the programme, the implementation and processes, and the outcome of the programme. At the European level, the objective should be is to reduce the proportion of countries reporting no organized activity.
Impact and expected outcomes. The Conference will give a review for Chlamydia trachomatis and HPV control programmes in European countries. We expect survey documented a wide variation in approaches to and capacity for control of these diseases. The conference outcome shall be relevant background for development of national strategies including guidelines, testing algorithms, molecular typing methods, surveillance and screening. The long term impact of Conference results shall be available online in Forum at Conference web page.
